Finals Day - Sunday 7th June 2009. Merano
After the success of yesterday the day started
well with the forecasted rain staying away
and we were welcomed by the mountains clear
from cloud and the tops lightly dusted with
fresh snow.
The river level was at a similar level to
Saturday afternoon (K1M Qualifications) high
and moving very fast. The finals course however
had been set to suit the high water levels
and was considered by all to be good.
Joey was 1st off in the C1M class, Joey attached
the course well but unfortunately missed gate
11 and this put him out of the running although
his run other than this was good.
The girls in the K1W class were next with
their Semi final runs and all tacked the course
and large water well and improved on their
qualifications positions. After the semi's
we had Jess in 7th and into the finals with
Alison 13th, Antra 15th and Ashleigh 17th.
Jaxon was next with his semi's run. His top
section was great, technique failing a little
down at the bottom . however he put in a fantastic
effort in a strong field of paddlers.
Finals with Jess in 7th in the K1W after the
semi's had a great run to finish 3rd overall
and onto the podium - great.
The racing may have been over
but the day was not, we left Merano for the
long drive to Marseille where we arrived at
9.15pm and we were immediately fed by Myriam's
parents where we all sat down for meal of
spaghetti. End to a very big day.
