Team Diary: Wednesday 10th
The day started (very) early for Antra and
Al who had exams, and earlier still for Waz,
who held the much-envied position of Chief
Assesor.
After the usual breakfast of hot chocolate/coffee,
croissants and bread, Team 'Australie' headed
down to the river for our second session on
the course. Myriam and Waz wasted no time
in setting challenging, third-length courses.
Most of us felt far more coordinated and comfortable
on the fast-flowing waves and strong eddies
than on the previous day. Video footage provided
further opportunities for technical analysis
and improvements to be made.
After the session, many of us took the chance
to do some much-needed washing, a move that
was especially appreciated by the coaches
- myriam even went so far as too claim the
boys'clothes smelled!
In the afternoon, Waz ran a competitive session
for the guys: four short sections, the loser
on each subsequently eliminated with the last
two remaining boys to contest 'the final'
i.e. the fourth section of the course. This
kindled our competitive spirit, and many great
runs were put down. In "immunity"
rrule was introduced whereby the winner of
one course gained immunity from being eliminated
from the next (exception being the final).
Tim seemed to suffer most at the hands of
this rule, twice missing the final due to
the loser having immunity. Al was told to
"man-up" by Joey (self-appointed
director of team masculinity) after spinning
gate 1, and both he and Jaxon suffered from
severe amnesia in remembering the course.
All in all, a sweet session.
For those parents who complained about entry
length, hope this is long enough for you!
Love Always,
Al
