Saturday, 12/7/08 - Day 9

Hello everyone!

Today we woke to the boys noisily swatting flies. Breakfast was served at the hotel, and then we departed for our river trip on the Inn river.

We had organised to do the trip with the experienced river running New Zealanders, to take advantage of awesome Mike Dawson. However they got lost and we ended up having to wait an hour before we finally set off.
The water was milky white and very cold. Since it had rained last night and snow was melting, it was in flood. There were huge wave trains and some munchy holes and stoppers. When jumping over the peaks of the waves you would sometimes find yourself 3 metres high and then come crashing down in the trough of the next wave.
As the river was in flood there were very few rocks, and it wasn't too technical. However I managed to find one of the few rocks close enough to the surface to cause any trouble. I ran over it and broke my boat.
We had rolls for lunch, and all bummed around for ages. Jake Lee from Foster came down and said hello. He is living in Austria for a year on a youth exchange programme.
Joey got a dirty mullet, and now looks like a rat.

At 5:00 in the afternoon we did a flat-water session on the Piburger See (lake) up on the top of the mountain. It is so beautiful; actually this whole area is stunning. As the boys wrote the entry yesterday they probably forgot to write about our amazing surroundings. We are staying in this little village, nestled between huge mountains. There are pine forests all around, and green fields.

For dinner we cooked dinner ourselves. We had tomato pasta, with Tash's mash, veggies and steak - followed by mousse. Yummy
Ethan was dared to drink olive oil for 5 euro. He failed as his gag reflexes kicked in and he spat it all over the garden.
Ben got a dirty rat's tail, and now joins Joey in the rat gang.

In the morning we plan to do a session on the slalom rapid! IT IS HUGE. You can hear the river roar from our accommodation. We all are very scared and hope we make it through to write another diary entry.
Goodnight everyone!
