Sunday, 6/7/08 - Day 3

Before I go on to tell you all about our wonderful day…

ROBIN BELL AND KATE LAWRENCE BOTH WON FIRST PLACE IN TODAY'S WORD CUP FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!

Robin and Kate were also the winners of the World Cup Series !!!!!!

Today we woke to a hot and stuffy morning in the Jacobhof hotel. Sleep had been long awaited. We were all very jetlagged and had to force ourselves to stay awake the day before.

A continental breakfast was served at 8:30 and Ben definitely did not hold back on the free pods of nutella. As it was super hot with a clear blue sky, we all dressed in shorts and singlets, and most didn't bother to pack any jumpers. As it turned out later - that decision was a bad idea
.
After breakfast we drove straight to the course where we did a speed endurance session on the far canal. After the epic session we quickly changed and went to watch the semis and finals of the women's K1 and the Men's C2. It was an awesome day of racing for Australia. There was a vast contingent of Australians in the semis in both classes, and Robin Bell and Kate Lawrence made the finals!
Bell smoked both of his runs and took out first place for Australia - His first ever world cup win. Kate, after qualifying for the finals in 5th position, had a brilliant second run and when the race was over, the score board showed her in second place behind Jana Dukatova. All Australians were over the moon, we couldn't believe it! 2 Australian medals! Five minutes later however, Jana's time was awarded a late penalty, and Kate moved to FIRST PLACE! Such an amazing day for Australian Paddling!!
Just before Kate's final's run, the sky opened up and it poured. We were all drenched in our insufficient shorts and singlets, and after the medal presentations we went back to the hotel to thaw out.
We went for another session at around 6.30 (it never gets dark here), where we did some sprints and a tech session on the main canal. Most of the finals course was still up, and we had a good play.
Straight from the session we went to dinner at a lovely Italian restaurant. The waiter there kept on trying to pressure us to buy alcohol. The boys on a trip to the bathroom found a 'mysterious item' dispenser. Joey bought what looked like an innocent orange shaped key ring. When showing us it's inner secret back at the table, he was sprung by the waiter and panicked.
Today Ethan went on a wild goose chase for his new boat, which was nearly given away to the New Zealand team.
Ash got VERY burnt.
The 'hectic robot gang,' comprised exclusively of the boys, were making new dance routines, and would call 'schwing!!!' to every passing good looking European girl.
We are all extremely tired and can't wait to get to bed.
Goodnight!
