Goodbye Oetz, Hello Prague!
This morning we rose at 6am (or 6.30 for the
girls!) to prepare for the epic 6 hour journey
to Prague. A sight for sore eyes, we encountered
the sun and a cloudless sky! At 8.15am, with
everything packed and everyone well fed, we
got on our way.
The journey was long for the HR boys, with
their total of 5 CDS on repeat. All the girls
in the berlingo, we jetted off ahead of the
boys so fast that we were able to catch Zlatan
(a real achievement).
We all stopped together at the Czech-German
border markets. Before entering the markets
we saw the US Junior Team, who was also on
their way to Roudnice. After some bartering,
we got on our way with a single thought on
our minds... The 'pristine' waters of Prague.
At 3.15pm we arrived at our destination, the
Prague boathouse, where we will stay for roughly
2 weeks. We quickly ate lunch after settling
in, ready for a session on the Troja slalom
course, which is almost 100 steps from our
accommodation.
A short progressives session and cruise was
on the agenda. Zlatan took all the boys for
his first coaching session with the team and
Tori worked with the girls. After braving
the waters, coke was in order, as were showers
and gear washing... an attempt to eliminate
the grime and wafting stench of the river.
We ate dinner together at the restaurant in
the boathouse. The menu included some very
traditional Czech meals, the boys and Tori
all had goulash and Dumplings. Zlatan has
now been challenged to cook for the team his
very own goulash recipe... on Friday, we'll
let you know how it goes!
At the boathouse we have run into the Candians,
who seem to be following us, and the Spanish
Junior team.
Antra has been fixing her boat after some
rock encounters on the Inns river in Austria
and the rest of the team has been competing
in a foosball tournament- Canada vs. Australia.
Goodnight from Prague,
tash
