Team Manger
Today was the first day of competition
in the ICF Junior Canoe Slalom World Championships.
Qualification races where held in Womens K1
and Mens C1, also the Teams event for both
Womens K1 and Mens C1 were held in the afternoon.
The day started with an early
breakfast and off to the course at 7:15 for
a 9:00 am start. The mens K1 and C2 were luck
as they were able to sleep in, they were coming
to the course later in the morning to watch
second runs in the individual events and the
teams events
All the girls; Rosalyn Lawrence,
Emmie Barratt and Kate Mollison had strong
first runs with the placing after the 1st
runs being: Ros - 14th, Emmie 27th and Kate
31st
The mens C1 saw a strong performance
by Ian Borrows to place him 32nd in a strong
field of competitors. Jonathan Davis being
placed 41st and Richard Merjan 51st
Second runs for the womens saw
another set of solid runs put down by all
three girls. Rosalyn was placed 20th with
a time of 219.78 sec, Emmie placed 26th with
a time of 226.91 ad Kate placed 35th with
a time of 235.44. The first 40 competitors
move to the semi finals to be held on Sunday
Morning. Congratulations to the three girls
on there progression to the Semi finals of
the Womens K1.
The Mens C1 should have seen
more Australians qualify for the semis but
some disappointments in second runs saw all
the boys in Mens C1 miss the qualification
for semi-finals.
The afternoon was allocated to the teams event
for Womens K1 and Mens C1, both the Womens
and Mens teams layed down solid 1st runs,
the girls being placed 5th and the boys placed
11th. Our hopes were riding with the girls
for a solid second run but this was not to
be with the girls having some difficulties
in the second run. In the final wash-up of
the teams events he Girls were placed 13th
and the boys placed 10th.
The details of the results can
be found on the results page of the website.
Tomorrow is the qualification
for Mens K1 and Mens C2. All the best to those
competing tomorrow.
